Complacent Heart

March 12, 2017

You are free,

For you were born that way,

I will forever let you be!

But still I whisper to the trees,

Can you not see?

Do you not hear me?

I'm like a deer running wild,

Hiding in the shadows,

Drifting in the wind.

As the gail gusts,

The leaves fall from the branches,

So entranced am I,

I cannot see the woods for the trees,

I'm like a tiny foal,

Unsteady on my feet!

You are the hunter,

With a large barrelled gun,

Even the sun shuns and shudders,

In the wake of the dart,

That will always shatter a complacent heart!
