Ode

My Nana,

Smoked More Ciggerretes,

They were longer than her fingers,

The smell always lingered,

But it never hindered,

Just how much I looked up to her,

Or how much I really cared!

She never glared,

Her voice was soft,

Her gaze was kind,

Her mind was sharp,

And tongue funny and wise!

She used to teach me to knit,

And also crochet,

Make Dollies and lollipop trees,

She always tried to please,

Her spirit I know will never leave,

For every breath that I continue to breathe.

Her Mother’s name was Sarah too,

Her ancestors beyond German,

We never knew!

Her garden was always covered in dew,

Her speciality dish, was Sausage stew!
